It’s not exactly a secret that Game of Thrones is an extremely expensive TV show to make, with early seasons of the show easily setting HBO back between $60-70 million a pop.
The budget has ballooned significantly since then as the show has grown in popularity and ambition, but you might be surprised to learn just how much money is being spent on each episode for season six.
As revealed by reporter James Hibberd in the April print edition of Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming season of Game of Thrones will be the most expensive in the show’s history by a pretty significant margin: “The show easily costs north of $10 million per episode at this point — not that you’ll hear HBO complain.”
We knew fire-breathing dragons and giant battles don’t come cheap, but that is still a ridiculous-huge budget for a TV show, even one as epic in scope as Game of Thrones. Hopefully some of that money went towards finally killing Ramsey off …
