No one could have predicted the tragic back-to-back deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds, who both passed away over the holidays. Fortunately, HBO had already completed work on a documentary focused on the famous mother and daughter. Originally slated to air later this year, HBO moved the premiere up to January 7th in the wake of Fisher and Reynolds’ passing and have now released a trailer for the documentary, titled Bright Lights.
As Fisher mentions at one point in the trailer, she was just about to start filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens while Bright Lights was in production, which gives us an idea of when the footage was shot. The documentary examines the relationship between the two movie stars, as well as their personal issues, including Fisher’s much-publicized struggles with mental health.
