In case you were unaware, The Walking Dead is currently the biggest show on cable. Airing Sunday nights, the post-apocalyptic survival drama has been a cash cow for AMC for six seasons and counting, averaging over 12 million viewers week after week. With an eighth season already confirmed for 2017 and Robert Kirkman’s comics providing story content up to a theoretical season eleven, it’s safe to say that The Walking Dead is going to march along for many years to come … and may even eventually find its way on the big screen.
ComicBook.com recently asked showrunner Scott Gimple whether or not a Walking Dead movie was in the cards and while Gimple admitted that there is nothing currently in the works, he does believe that it will happen one day. “That question comes up every now and again,” Gimple said. “I’m sure one way or another, one day, it’ll happen. I think it would be cool.”
Although one would assume that the TV show’s cast would reprise their roles if The Walking Dead ever became a movie, Gimple joked about some actors he’d like to see play some of the main characters if the film were to be a reboot. “William Shatner as Rick. We’ll get Edward James Olmos as Daryl. Hit all the big shows! Matthew Fox as the Governor!”
As long as they get Jeff Bridges to play Hershel, count us in!
