After months and months of speculation, The Walking Dead has finally found their man!

Jeffery Dean Morgan (who you may recognize from The Good Wife or Watchmen) has officially been cast as the iconic comic book bad guy Negan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sources told the THR that Negan will finally on the show during the season six finale, most likely setting up a cliffhanger going into season seven. Negan is the foul-mouthed leader of The Saviors, a group that uses violence and intimidation to coerce other communities into sharing their resources with them. He famously carries around a barbed-wire baseball bat that he uses to kill both humans and walkers whenever the mood strikes him.

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple previously told THR that introducing Negan would be “challenging,” especially given the character’s penchant for f-bombs. “There’s a particular story in that arc that I’m very excited for. But because we know where we’re going, we have some opportunities to play around with it and put some things in that will lead up to [Negan and Alexandria] in different ways yet fulfill the story Robert told to the Nth degree by utilizing some slightly different approaches. Lineups and timelines and the whole nine yards.”

Previously, actors such as Timothy Olyphant, Jon Hamm, Matt Dillon and Garret Dillahunt were all rumored to be considered for the role.

Negan makes a shock arrival in the comics by bludgeoning Glenn to death in front of his friends in the landmark issue #100. With Glenn’s current fate on the show a little more undefined (Maybe he’s dead. Maybe he’s not), it remains to be seen exactly how Jeffery Dean Morgan’s version of Negan will make his first impression. The producers of The Walking Dead have not yet addressed how they will handle his dialogue either, since the comic Negan is one of the most foul-mouthed fictional characters of all-time, dropping multiple curse worse almost every sentence.
