While a few minor characters from Sons of Anarchy will likely have some sort of role in Mayans MC (although probably not Charlie Hunnam as Jackson “Jax” Teller), the spinoff has landed a new face to play the lead role.
According to Deadline, 36-year-old actor J.D. Pardo has accepted the role of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, who will begin the show as a prospect in the Mayans’ gang in the aftermath of the Sons of Anarchy losing their leader.
EZ is the gifted son of a proud Latino family, whose American dream was snuffed out by cartel violence. Now, his need for vengeance drives him toward a life he never intended and can never escape. Pardo joins previously cast Edward James Olmos, who plays EZ’s father, John Ortiz and Clayton Cardenas.
Mayans MC will again have Kurt Sutter involved, the man who created Sons of Anarchy, as a director/writer/producer. The show will heavily focus on the Latino motorcycle gang, although other players from the Sons of Anarchy universe will likely remain involved as supporting cast.
Pardo has previously been seen in television series like East Los High, Revolution and The O.C., while also appearing in films like Snitch and even the Twilight series.
