Okay, here are the things you need to know about this situation:
-Iceland, a tiny country of 323,000 people, has qualified for the 2016 UEFA European Chmpionship for the first time in their history. It is a remarkable sporting achievement.
-They were drawn into a group with Portugal, a team that features the considerable talents of Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the best soccer player on the planet.
-Hafthór Björnsson plays Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane on Game of Thrones. He is from Iceland and is apparently a soccer fan. He’s also a legitimate monster of a human being (6’9″ and 400-pounds) and regularly competes in professional strongmen competitions.
-The Mountain crushed the skulls of his foes (RIP Oberyn).
So with the context out of the way, Björnsson has issued a (hopefully not serious) threat to Ronaldo, warning him that he better take it easy when Iceland and Portugal face off in the first match of their group stage action on June 14.
“Hey, my name is Hafthór Björnsson from Iceland. I’m “The Mountain” from Game of Thrones, and I have a message for Cristiano Ronaldo. I know you’re playing against Iceland in the first game. If you dare to score against my teammates, I will find you and crush your head, like I did the The Red Viper”
Maybe Ronaldo should just fake an injury for that game or something.
