RUMOR: ‘Game of Thrones’ May Have Just Cast Rhaegar Targaryen

Source: HBO

Following Game of Thrones season seven casting news and rumors sure has been an interesting ride. For every confirmed casting announcement, such as as Jim Broadbent of Harry Potter fame taking a role, we’ve seen a rumor totally out of left field such as Angela Lansbury getting the call (which turned out to be false). Now, someone else is cryptically suggesting that they have a role in the newest season and based on their appearance, we have a pretty good idea of which character they could be playing.

The actor in question is I See Stars singer Devin Oliver, who posted a message on Instagram saying, “I may or may not have made an appearance in Game of Thrones season 7.” Of course, Game of Thrones fans will recall that the show has cast musicians in roles before — members of Coldplay, Sigur Rós, Snow Patrol, and Mastadon have all shown up in bit parts — but Oliver’s striking appearance has the internet abuzz with speculation. Seriously, just look at this guy:

Doesn’t he remind you of a certain Targaryen prince that isn’t confirmed to be in season seven, but you know totally will be? That’s right, the speculation is that Oliver has been cast as Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys’ deceased older brother who fathered a child with Lyanna Stark who has just recently been revealed as Jon Snow. Really, this testimonial says it all:

“As a girl, I can say right here right now: this guy is so hot. If he is Rhaegar, Lyanna was damm happy to run away with him. If he is Rhaegar, that look Littlefinger gave Sansa when she repeated that whole “Rhaegar abducted and raped Lyanna” thing is spot on! Imagine season 7 opening with a flashback of this guy singing? No need for a second flashback where Lyanna tells Ned she was pretty in love with Rhaegar…”

And hey, if Oliver’s appearance doesn’t have you convinced that he’s a shoe-in for Rhaegar, perhaps this line from Barristan Selmy spoken to Daenerys back in season five about her brother will change your tune: “Rhaegar never liked killing. He loved singing.”

The plot thickens …
