How I Met Your Mother has only been off the air for three years, but 20th Century Fox is reportedly already looking for ways to revive the popular sitcom.

According to Deadline (via IGN), Fox is interested in bringing the series back for new seasons.

“I hope we will have an opportunity to revisit these characters and tell these stories if (the creators and stars) have the desire to do it,” 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden said during a Fox press conference today. “It’s a beloved show that still continues to be popular all over the world.”

In addition to bringing the original cast back, the other main hurdle standing in Fox’s way is that creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are currently under contract with Sony TV.

A spinoff series called How I Met Your Dad received a pilot order shortly after How I Met Your Mother concluded, but CBS never ordered a full series and was ultimately tabled when script co-writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger were promoted to executive producers and co-showrunners on This Is Us Season 2.

The infamous series finale of How I Met Your Mother was poorly received by many fans of the show, so it would be interesting to see how people would respond to a series revival. Would you want to see Ted, Robin, and the rest of the gang grab drinks at MacLaren’s Pub again?
