The FX series Legion just wrapped up its mind-bending first season and it’s already been confirmed that the X-Men-related drama will be back for a second. While it’s never been explicitly stated on the show that David Haller (Dan Stevens), the all-powerful mutant at the center of the series, is the son of Charles Xavier, this lineage has been all but confirmed. In fact, there’s a very good chance that Professor X will be showing up in Season 2.
During a recent conference call, showrunner Noah Hawley revealed that Professor X’s arrival is something the series will “definitely approach” as it heads into its next phase. If so, the next question becomes whether it will be Sir Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy sitting in the wheelchair, which Hawley says all depends on what conversations take place.
“I think that’s something we’re definitely going to approach,” Hawley said [via Den of Geek]
“It’s a creative conversation, but it’s also a sort of corporate conversation, you know, on some level — in terms of the movie studio and their relationship to the X-Men and the characters they want in the movies and want to protect potentially.
“And were we to have Professor X on the show, or even Patrick Stewart on the show, James McAvoy or one of those actors, [it] is a conversation both with the actor and the studio.
“So, I don’t know. I haven’t really dived into that quandary yet, but certainly I need to start thinking about it.”
Studio negotiations aside, it looks like at least one of the actors Hawley mentioned is game for an appearance in Legion. Sir Patrick Stewart recently appeared on James Corden’s The Late Late Show alongside Dan Stevens, who asked the acting legend point-blank whether he’d be interested in joining the series.
“What about Professor X in Legion?” Stevens asked. “Essentially, I’ve got a job offer for Patrick.”
“Are you in?” asked Corden.
“Absolutely,” Stewart replied.
If he’s interested, it looks like James McAvoy has some competition!
