No other actor has yet to play Geralt of Rivia in live-action, but Henry Cavill will still have to compete with the performance of Doug Cockle — who has voiced the character in all of CD Projekt Red’s Witcher video games — when he plays the character in Netflix’s The Witcher. Fortunately, it seems like Cockle approves of Cavill getting the role.
Responding to requests for his opinion on Cavill’s casting, Cockle responded positively on Twitter:
People keep asking… so… let me go on record saying I think that #HenryCavill will do a great job as #GeraltOfRivia ! He'll make it his own of course, as well he should, and I can't wait to see what @LHissrich and the whole @netflix team create. It's gonna be #Magic 😀🦄

Cavill’s casting was announced yesterday, with the actor cheekily revealing the news by announcing that he has a “new mailing address” on his Instagram page. The Netflix series will draw on Andrzej Sapkowski’s original novels, with CD Projekt Red having no involvement in the project, but it will still be Cockle’s version of the character that Cavill will be compared to. We’ll see if he can pull it off when the series debuts sometime in 2020 (expected release).
