‘Making a Murderer’ Suspect Brendan Dassey Might Not Be Released From Jail After All

News broke earlier this week that Brendan Dassey, who was not released from prison in time to watch WrestleMania, might finally be getting out.

Dassey, the nephew of Steven Avery and the subject of the popular Netflix documentary Making a Murderer, is set to be released this Friday. His legal team successfully convinced a judge to throw out his conviction back in August, but the state appealed that decision. The appeal was also tossed, with the same judge saying that attorney general Brad Schimel was offering no new evidence on Dassey’s case. The judge ordered Dassey to be released Friday, November 18 at 8:00 pm.

However, Schimel wasn’t about to accept defeat. He filed an emergency motion with the 7th district court of appeals. He wants a panel of judges to look over the case and decide if Dassey’s release was handled to the letter of the law. If they find any technicalities or errors, Dassey could be sent back to prison.

If the panel doesn’t rule on Dassey’s case by Friday evening, he will be released regardless. However, if the panel decides against him in the next few weeks, his taste of freedom could be short lived.
