It took fifteen years, a couple of side projects, and a long, complicated battle over intellectual property rights, but Mystery Science Theater 3000 could be headed back to television. The original show aired nearly 200 episodes over its ten year life, and pioneered the idea of talking over someone else’s creation that lives and thrives on countless YouTube and Twitch channels today.

Creator and original human star of the cult classic television show Joel Hodgson launched a Kickstarter today, which could see as many as 12 new episodes of the long-dormant franchise created. In addition, the Kickstarter is intended to show demand for the return of the program, as Hodgson and his team will be attempting to shop the property to television networks and other distribution channels in order to hopefully bring the show back full-time as an actual series.

The Kickstarter is looking for $2.2 million in order to create three episodes, with stretch goals of up to $5.5 million in order to make the full run of 12. Movie licenses aren’t cheap, after all. If you want to donate, you can find the link to the project here.
