You may have noticed a pattern in the way that HBO’s Game of Thrones is presented to us every year. Each season is ten episodes, using the first eight chapters to build up to an explosive ninth, before wrapping up loose ends and prepping us for the next season in the season finale.
Not convinced? Here’s what happened in all of the “Episode Nines” so far:
-Ned Stark was beheaded
-The Battle Of Blackwater Bay
-The Red Wedding
-The Wildlings massive attack on The Wall
-Drogon returns from exile to save Daenerys
Those are some pivotal, game-changing moments in the series. As season six is currently being filmed in parts of Northern Ireland, some small details are leaking about what the next “Episode Nine” might contain. The GoT blog Watchers on The Wall is reporting that the crew is “filming portions of a massive battle in Saintfield, Northern Ireland, that will likely be a part of episode nine.”
We know what you’re thinking… So what? There are big battles almost every season. Let’s read on, and see which families are doing the battling.
We’ve learned that the battle will involve many northern armies fighting, including the Umbers, the Boltons, wildlings and more! The true major spoiler is this: Kit Harington, also known as Jon Snow, was also seen at the location, participating in shooting this week.
Yay! The fan-favourite was famously betrayed by the Night’s Watch at the end of season five and presumably left for dead. No, we’re not putting a spoiler alert for something that is already three months old and basically pop culture common knowledge by now.
Harington has already been spotted in numerous filming locations. Perhaps most importantly, he has been seen with his trademark long hair (he was previously seen sporting a shorter cut, making fans fear that Snow was gone for good).
Could this all be misdirection to keep fans guessing? Absolutely! And we will keep eating it up like the Game of Thrones obsessed cult that we are.
