Is Khal Drogo Returning For ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7?

It seems absurd to speculate that a character who was killed off in the first season of a show that is currently heading into its seventh could be coming back, but judging by Jason Momoa’s recent social media activity, it would appear that the actor is heavily teasing a possible Khal Drogo return in Game of Thrones.

Over the last few months, Momoa has been causing fans to speculate wildly that he will be making a return to the HBO series, as he’s posted photos to his Instagram that show him hanging out and drinking with former Thrones cast mates, cheering on his fictional wife Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and, most recently, having drinks with Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff in Northern Ireland.

Sure, it’s not unheard of for an actor to reconnect with their former co-workers, but the fact that Mamoa is doing so in Northern Ireland is of particular interest, as it’s one of the major filming locations for Game of Thrones. Momoa also happens to be between major projects right now, as Justice League started filming back in April but Momoa appears to be finished with that for the time being. Of course, Momoa could just be on vacation (he did take some time to visit the Guinness brewery, after all) but he could also very well be meeting with his former bosses to discuss plans for his imminent return to work.

Momoa has also curiously been using the hashtag #ALOHA DROGO in many of his Game of Thrones-related Instagram posts over the last few months, but seeing as how “Aloha” means both “hello” and “goodbye,” it’s hard to know what Momoa’s intended meaning may be. Pushing the “Khal Drogo returns” conspiracy even further, Momoa has reportedly deleted some previous posts that hint at a Game of Thrones reunion/return, suggesting that Momoa is trying to hide something.

All that being said, what exactly would be the point of Khal Drogo returning to Game of Thrones this late in the show’s lifespan? His death back in season one was a major milestone in Dany’s character development and helped put her on the path she’s been following for the better part of six seasons now. There’s also the small issue of Drogo being dead as can be. Sure, Game of Thrones has proven with Jon Snow that resurrection is possible in the show’s universe, but the show would have to present a pretty compelling case for bringing Drogo back at this stage for the whole thing to not feel incredibly cheap.

If Jason Momoa were to return to Game of Thrones, it would probably only be for an episode or two, possibly appearing in a vision or some other way that doesn’t involve his character actually being alive. After all, it’s not like the show hasn’t done this exact thing before or anything …
