Season four of the Netflix original series House of Cards hits our televisions in early March, but the streaming service just announced great news for fans of the political thriller — a fifth season will be happening too.

There’s bad news too, though. Netflix passed along the fact that Beau Willimon, the co-creator and showrunner for the critically acclaimed and award-winning series, will not be returning. He has decided to focus on other projects.

“Prior to its fourth-season premiere, Netflix and [producers] Media Rights Capital are thrilled to announce that House of Cards will return for a fifth season in 2017. Concurrent with the renewal, creator and showrunner Beau Willimon is departing the critically acclaimed series,” Netflix said Thursday in a statement, via The Hollywood Reporter. “Netflix and MRC owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Beau Willimon for his strong narrative vision for House of Cards over the show’s first four seasons. As an Academy Award-nominated writer, he made his first foray into television and built a riveting and critically acclaimed series, establishing his place in TV history. The producers, cast and crew join us in wishing Beau the best in his next creative adventure.”

Netflix did not immediately announce who would take his place. The show stars Kevin Spacey as fictional U.S. President Frank Underwood. Spacey is also an executive producer of the show, alongside David Fincher, Joshua Donen, Eric Roth, Dana Brunetti, Andrew Davies, and Michael Dobbs.

Willimon is apparently leaving on good terms. Fans of the show will hope that having someone else in charge doesn’t change the dramatic and dark tone the show has become famous for. Willimon wished the show nothing but the best in his comments.

“I’m grateful to Netflix and MRC, my fellow executive producers, our two incandescent stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, our talented writers, as well as the incredible cast and crew with whom I’ve had the privilege to work. After five years and four seasons, it’s time for me to move on to new endeavors, but I’m supremely proud of what we’ve built together, wish the show much continued success, and leave it in the hands of a very capable team.” (Via)

Season four debuts on Netflix on March 4. Expect season five to debut approximately a year later.
