Comic book fans of the The Walking Dead have long been hoping that that Negan would make his way to the hit TV show on AMC. Their pleas were finally answered, as it was announced that Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be taking up the iconic role.
Despite the excitement, there are still many concerns about how Negan will be brought to life on the small screen. After all, the Negan from the comics has one of the most vulgar mouths of any fictional characters ever. If you’ve never read them, just imagine a Tarantino movie crossed with a Scorsese flick and then multiply it by ten. There are literally F-bombs being dropped every other word by this guy.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Morgan was asked how the cable channel plans to deal with his colorful vocabulary.
How close to the comic are they going to keep the character?
The character itself is going to be as close as humanly possible.
The foul language is an issue.
Look, it’s a speed bump. I’m not going to say it’s an issue because they’re working on it. We’re going to push AMC — the plan is to push them as far as they can because it’s who Negan is. He uses some colorful language. And I use some colorful language. And reading the comic, it’s important. So we’ll see where that lands. It’s our intention that this character is going to leap off the pages of the comic book. It’s very important that that’s who it is. Some of the characters there’s much more leeway, but Negan is a guy that you want to keep as true as possible, and that would be how I want to play him as well.
Quite frankly, we hope they just let him swear as much as he wants. They can always beep it out on TV if they want. Plus, an uncensored DVD version would be a must-have for any Walking Dead fan.
Morgan also gave us a little teaser of Negan’s favorite companion.
Have you seen your Lucille yet?
She is gorgeous. She is a beautiful girl.
