Now here’s a casting choice we never saw coming.
Fresh off his roles in Justice League and this summer’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Henry Cavill is set to star as the monster-slaying mercenary Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill is a massive fan of the best-selling fantasy book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, which have also been adapted into a series of best-selling video games made by CD Projekt Red. This marks Cavill’s first regular TV series role since he played Charles Brandon on four seasons of Showtime’s The Tudors.
Netflix’s The Witcher will be an eight-episode series, with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Netflix’s Daredevil and The Defenders) set to serve as showrunner. It’s still in pre-production, so we probably won’t get to see Cavill play the grey-haired swordsman until 2020 at the earliest.
