Jane Goldman’s big-budget Game of Thrones prequel series starring Naomi Watts is no longer happening.

Although the series’ termination has yet to be confirmed or denied by HBO, according to a report by Deadline, HBO executives weren’t pleased with the pilot they viewed during the summer, and despite changes being made, the premium cable company decided to pass on the Game of Thrones spin-off and focus their attention elsewhere.

Even though Goldman’s series has been canceled, as mentioned above, HBO has decided to move forward with George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal’s Game of Thrones prequel, which is said to be focused heavily on the fall of House Targaryen, roughly 300 years prior to the events of David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ original GOT storyline. Few details have been released about the Martin and Codal’s upcoming project, but we hear the series is said to be based on a rejected concept Condal pitched earlier this year.

Are you upset that HBO passed on Goldman’s spin-off or are you more excited about the potential of Martin and Condal’s series? Let us know in the comments below.
