HBO has released their “Yearender” video celebrating yet another strong year of film and TV programming. While the montage is primarily composed of footage from 2015, it does offer some tantalizing sneak peeks at HBO’s 2016 lineup, including the highly-anticipated sixth season of Game of Thrones.
Admittedly, the three brief shots shown here don’t offer up much in the way of plot, but it is interesting to note which characters are highlighted. Daenerys Targaryen looks worried, considering she has a whole new Dothraki army to deal with, Ramsay looks as smug and repugnant as ever in his fur-lined war gear, and a newly-freed Cersei embraces her only remaining son Tommen, as mothers who have been separated from their sons against their will are wont to do.
While these three characters are in no way going to be the only ones focused on next season, it’s interesting that not a single one of the remaining Starks is highlighted, further showing how marginalized the central family of protagonists have become as their ranks continue to deplete.
Okay, we’ll just say it: There’s no Jon Snow in this trailer and it’s really doubtful that we’ll see any new scenes of Kit Harrington’s possibly dead, possibly alive, possibly a ghost character before April when the series returns.
