‘Game of Thrones’ Spoilers: New Set Photos Suggest Betrayal of a Major House

Via HBO

According to a new report from Watchers on the Wall, photos from the filming of the next season of Game of Thrones reveal a major swing in family alliances.

Obviously, this article will contain POTENTIAL SPOILERS and you should leave now if you prefer your Game of Thrones viewing to be completely unspoiled.

Filming in Las Breñas and Los Barruecos has revealed that a large Lannister army is being led by none other than the Kingslayer himself, Jamie Lannister. That suggests that he forgives his sister Cersei for blowing up the Sept and directly contributing to the suicide of their last remaining child, Tommen.

The interesting part, however, is that Randyll Tarly and his bannerman also ride along with the Lannisters. You may recall Randyll as Sam’s angry father, who banished Sam from his family in Season Six. The Tarly’s have traditionally always been allies to the Tyrells of Highgarden, but it looks like they will be betraying that alliance in Season Seven and joining the Lannister side of the coming wars.

One last interesting tidbit from the set is that Jamie is carrying around a new sword, but one that holds a lot of significance.

Eagle eyed fans have spotted him carrying around Widow’s Wail, the Valyrian steel weapon that formally belonged to King Joffrey. Prior to that, the steel was forged into Ice, the ancestral sword of Ned Stark. After Ned’s death, Ice was melted down by Tywin Lannister to create Widow’s Wail for Joffrey and Oathbreaker for Jamie (which Jamie has since given to Brienne of Tarth).
