Baywatch Movie Will Be R-Rated Buddy Comedy Starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron

Baywatch is probably near the bottom of the list of 90s era TV shows we’d like to see adapted into a modern day reboot, but if Dwayne Johnson is to be believed, the upcoming Baywatch redo will be much more than supermodels running down the beach in skimpy bathing suits (although there will still be plenty of that).

Baywatch will star Johnson and Zac Efron as two lifeguards who have to work together to stop an evil oil tycoon (is there any other kind?) from destroying the beach they love showing off their muscles on. Rather than simply be a recreation of the cheesy David Hasselhoff TV show however, the film is taking the same route as the extremely successful Jonah Hill-Channing Tatum buddy comedy 21 Jump Street, turning Baywatch into an R-rated comedy. Efron, who is no stranger to comedy thanks to his well-received performance in last year’s Neighbours, should play well off the older, charismatic Johnson.

The film will reportedly start shooting early next year. There is no confirmation yet on whether Hasselhoff or Pamela Anderson will be showing up but considering the showstopping cameo that Johnny Depp gave in 21 Jump Street, it would be a major missed opportunity if they didn’t.
