Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of Will Smith, released a video on Martin Luther King Day (which is no coincidence), calling on black actors and actresses to boycott the Academy Awards due to their perceived “whiteness.” And maybe because her husband didn’t pick up a Best Actor nomination for playing Dr. Bennet Omalu in Concussion. One day later, Janet Hubert (the actress who played Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) responded with a scathing video of her own.
She mentions that Will Smith refused to help his fellow black actors secure better deals when he was the star of Fresh Prince, claiming that he merely responded to his co-stars with “my deal is my deal and your deal is your deal.”
She went to say that she didn’t think Will Smith even deserved to be nominated for Best Actor for his role in Concussion. She even criticized his nomination in the same category at the Golden Globes:
“I didn’t think, frankly, you deserved the nomination at the Golden Globes, with that accent. But you got one.”
The best dig from the whole video?
“You ain’t Barack and Michelle Obama, and y’all need to get over yourselves.”
Preach it, Aunt Viv. We’re guessing she won’t be invited to any Fresh Prince reunions.
