The first teaser trailer for the violent and vulgar anti-superhero series The Boys was released by Amazon today and one thing is for certain, these are NOT your typical superheroes.

The upcoming TV series is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s 72-issue comic series of the same name. Imagine a world were superheroes exist, but rather than helping people, they’re treated like celebrities, driven by power and greed. It really turns the whole superhero notion on its head. In an effort to keep the superheroes in check, the CIA organizes a secret superpowered team, known as The Boys – a group of individuals handpicked to do the CIA’s dirty work (literally).

Watch the teaser trailer below:

The TV series is being produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Elisabeth Shue as Madelyn Stillwell, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Antony Starr as The Homelander, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Jack Quaid as “Wee” Hughie Campbell, Karen Fukuhara as Female, and Tomer Kapon and Frenchie.

Here’s an official synopsis of the series:

“The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven, and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets. The Boys are Hughie (Jack Quaid, “The Hunger Games”), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban, “Star Trek”), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso, “Detroit”), Frenchie (Tomer Capon, “Hostages”), and The Female (Karen Fukuhara, “Suicide Squad”). Simon Pegg (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout”) guest stars as Hughie’s father.”
