The internet may be a wretched hive of scum and villainy most of the time, but sometimes, it gives you something that just make you smile all over. This is one of those things.
“Frinkiac” is a new online resource that allows users to search for any Simpsons quote from the show’s first fifteen seasons and find a screengrab from it. That translates to three million searchable screengrabs. Yes, Frinkiac is the stuff of Simpsons fans’ dreams.
“We had the idea several years ago when we were quoting The Simpsons at each other all day long, and it was surprisingly difficult to find an image of the scenes we were quoting on Google,” says Sean Schulte, who created Frinkiac with Paul Kehrer and Allie Young.
Essentially, Frinkiac lines up time codes between words and images, as well as parsing through subtitle files to match screenshots with the right quote. You can read a little more about the process here, but all you really need to know is that Frinkiac will make sharing Simpsons quotes on the internet easier and better than ever (even if the process of actually sharing the screenshots isn’t very intuitive). The gentlemen behind this database truly are kings of kings.
