WWE Smackdown Live! Match Results – September 6th, 2016

With Backlash just a few days away, this week’s Smackdown Live! was the final chance for competitors to get their shots in before the Pay Per View. In addition, the final four teams faced off for the right to compete for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles at Backlash. Here’s everything that went down at the last Smackdown before Backlash!

Live from Lincoln, Nebraska

Daniel Bryan called out the women who will fight in the Six-Pack Elimination Match at Backlash. Becky Lynch was initially isolated by Carmella, Natalya, and Alexa Bliss, but used her wiles to briefly cause in-fighting, and was then saved by Nikki Bella and Naomi

– The Miz d. Apollo Crews (pinfall, Skull-Crushing Finale)

Dolph Ziggler was on commentary and attempted to confront Miz after the match by stealing the Intercontinental Title and holding it hostage, but Miz sent Maryse to recover the belt.

Bray Wyatt cut a promo from his smoky room about how mankind evolved and adapted to become superior to former apex predators like snakes, claiming he was the evolution of Man, and therefore a god.

– Natalya, Carmella, and Alexa Bliss d. Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, and Naomi (Carmella submitted Nikki, Code of Silence)

– American Alpha d. The Usos to advance to the Smackdown Tag Team Title tournament finals (Gable pinned Jimmy, Grand Amplitude)

The entire match lasted a minute. Usos attempted to jump the Alphas at the bell, but were quickly dispatched. The Usos attacked a second time after the bell, deliberately injuring Gable’s leg.

Fandango brings a woman into the ring to dance with him, but is upset when she dances better than him and kicks her out. He asks if anyone wants to fight, and is answered by Kane. Guess what happens.

– Heath Slater and Rhyno d. Hype Bros to advance to the Smackdown Tag Team Title tournament finals (Rhyno pinned Ryder, Gore)

Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles had a face-off in the ring. Ambrose gave Styles a cheap bowling trophy, claiming it was the only trophy Styles was going to win, then mocked him for getting crotched on the top rope the previous week. Styles reminded Ambrose that he beat John Cena, and Ambrose is no Cena. After some more back-and-forth, Styles kicked Ambrose in the crotch for a final shot as Smackdown ended.

After the show ended, it was announced that Hype Bros will face The Usos at Backlash, with the winners replacing the injured American Alpha in the Smackdown Tag Title match against Slater and Rhyno.
