According to a report from ESPN, WWE has officially decided on a new business model for their ‘Big Four’ Pay Per Views, and will be using it going forward. Under the new model, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and the Royal Rumble shows will all become weekend-long events that also contain an NXT TakeOver special on Saturday, Raw on Monday, and Smackdown Live on Tuesday, all emanating from the same city (though not necessarily the same arena), and with entry to all four shows available through the purchase of a single ticket. This coincides with an announcement that Houston will be the location for the 2017 edition of Survivor Series, joining Orlando for WrestleMania 33, and Brooklyn for SummerSlam.

WWE used a similar package for SummerSlam in Brooklyn this year as a ‘test case’ for the model, and has already sold out of weekend passes for WrestleMania 33, which also included admission to the Hall of Fame ceremony.

An important takeaway from this is that NXT will now regularly have four scheduled TakeOver events which coincide with the Big Four PPVs, although there is no word yet if those will be the only ones to take place in 2017. In 2016, NXT also ran a TakeOver at Full Sail University in between WrestleMania and SummerSlam, and did not have one on Royal Rumble weekend, choosing instead to hold it during their December 2015 tour of the UK.
