WWE Issues Official Statement About Raw Controversy

After days of negative responses to the angle which ended Raw this week, where the death of Reid Flair was used as part of an on-air angle between Divas Champion Charlotte (Reid’s sister) and Paige, WWE has issued the following statement:

“Subject matter this personal is only approved as a result of the strong advocacy of the talent themselves. Notwithstanding that, WWE is ultimately responsible for what airs in its programming.”

While taking responsibility for putting the angle on television, WWE is stating that Charlotte had to be fully on board, and even completely supportive, of the angle existing in the first place. That’s not to say that Charlotte might have felt pressure to go along with things, but it’s likely that we’ll never really know the truth.

What do you think? Does the fact that Charlotte agreed to (and may have even suggested) the angle mitigate the controversy, in your eyes? Or should WWE have never allowed it to air in the first place?
