WWE Battleground 2016 Pay Per View Results

Here are all the match results from this Sunday’s WWE Battleground Pay Per View, which took place on Sunday, July 24th in Washington, DC. Come back later on Monday for Goliath’s in-depth analysis of the show, and stick around for even more exclusive daily wrestling content!

Pre-Show Match

– Breezango defeated The Usos (Tyler Breeze pinned Jimmy Uso, inside cradle)

WWE Battleground

– Sasha Banks and Bayley defeated Charlotte and Dana Brooke (Sasha submitted Charlotte, Banks Statement)

The announce team said this was a one-time deal for Bayley, presumably to not give away the result of her upcoming NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn title match with Asuka.

– The Wyatt Family defeated The New Day (Bray pinned Xavier Woods, Sister Abigail)

– Rusev defeated Zack Ryder to retain the WWE United States title (submission, Accolade)

After the match, Rusev continued to beat up Ryder until Mojo Rawley made the save.

– Sami Zayn defeated Kevin Owens (pinfall, double Helluva Kicks)

You should almost certainly watch this if you can. Just to give you an idea of how good it was, it received a spontaneous standing ovation from the live crowd mid-match.

– Natalya defeated Becky Lynch (submission, Sharpshooter)

– Darren Young vs The Miz went to a (presumed) No Contest. Miz retains the Intercontinental title.

During the match, Maryse slapped Bob Backlund. Backlund snapped, causing Miz to intervene and shove down Backlund. At that point, Young also snapped, and trapped Miz in the Crossface Chicken Wing outside the ring, at which point the bell rang for some reason. After referees pried Young off Miz, he attacked them as well.

– John Cena and Enzo & Cass defeated The Club (Cena pinned Styles, Top Rope AA)

It should probably go without saying, but before the match began, Enzo cut another incredible promo.

On the Highlight Reel, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho traded barbs (including Orton making a joke about beating Brock without needing “enhancement”, which, you know, maybe Orton shouldn’t be the one to mock drug test failures…) until Orton hit Jericho with an RKO.

– Dean Ambrose defeated Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE Championship (Ambrose pinned Reigns, Dirty Deeds)
