Johnny Gaudreau and the Calgary Flames have quietly won 10 straight games and surged into second place in the Pacific Division. Johnny Hockey put the icing on the cake of the win streak with this nifty goal last night against the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the third period, Gaudreau picked the puck up in his own end, blew past Tom Kuhnhackl, absolutely undressed Ron Hainsey with a sick dangle, avoided Nick Bonino’s attempt to block his shot, then executed a perfect wraparound to beat both Marc-Andre Fleury and Brian Dumoulin to the far post. For those not counting along at home, that’s five Penguins made to look silly by the 23-year-old Flames star. And since the Flames were on a powerplay at the time, Johnny Hockey literally dusted the entire line.
Sidney Crosby would tie the game at 3-3 about ten minutes later, but the Flames would prevail in the shootout after overtime settled nothing.
