From the Foley announcement to WWE’s insistence that the PPV contains a “Triple Main Event” (which means roughly half the card is now the main event), the debate has raged over which match should close out Hell in a Cell this Sunday. Well, according to reports, there is only one man standing in the way of Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair becoming the first women to be the actual main event of a WWE PPV, and unfortunately, it’s the guy who owns the company. Allegedly, the entire writing team and Triple H are pushing for the Women’s Title match to end the show, but Vince McMahon has been steadfast in his opposition, and since he’s the guy with final say, at this point, it is likely that the Universal Title match will be the main event of the evening.

To be fair, Vince’s reasoning is probably not what you’re thinking, at least not openly. According to the same reports, Vince is against the idea because WWE has not properly promoted the history-making event in a way that could allow them to make more money (or at least garner more Network subscribers) out of a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, and in that respect, he’s probably correct. However, we should point out that WWE had six weeks to promote a match that they knew was occurring, and even already had Sasha and Charlotte as the faces of the PPV poster, but instead chose to waffle on what the main event of the show would be even after Mick Foley made his public statement, which received general acclaim, before settling on the whole wishy-washy “Triple Main Event” concept. In the end, if the women don’t finish the show, WWE will have no one to blame but themselves for missing out on the opportunity.
