The Wyatt Family Invokes “Freebird” Rule For Title Defenses

Just like The New Day on Raw, it looks like The Wyatt Family, consisting of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Randy Orton, will be allowed to defend their newly-won Smackdown Tag Team Titles as a unit, allowing to rotate all three Superstars in and out of matches as desired. This convenient loophole, called the “Freebird Rule” after the infamous Fabulous Freebirds who popularized the concept, allows Wyatt and Harper to defend the titles at live events, due to Orton being given time off the road following the recent birth of his second child. It might also offer a way for Orton and Harper to continue working on their side-eye game and fighting for Wyatt’s attention, which will inevitably lead to them losing the titles and breaking up, but that’s just us speculating.
