Steve Austin Talks About Being Hurt For His WrestleMania Appearance

The moment when Steve Austin, Mick Foley, and Shawn Michaels made an appearance following the New Day-League of Nations match was one of the highlights of WrestleMania 32. But it was an especially painful experience for Austin, who revealed during his latest episode of the Stone Cold Podcast that he’d actually torn his rotator cuff in the days before the event. Here’s Austin’s description of how he was feeling while appearing at WrestleMania in his home state of Texas, in his own trademark style:

“After I’d already committed to Vince to be there, I tore my rotator cuff on my right shoulder. I tore the hell out of it. It hurt like a b*tch…I can barely drink beer. This is my beer drinking arm! That’s what I was most upset about.

[After the match] we had to start throwing punches. I threw that first punch at Rusev…and I hit him in the mouth or the nose, and he’s in the corner and he’s bleeding and I feel so bad for him because I really like Rusev…When I threw that first punch, I ripped everything in my shoulder. And I’m like, ‘Jesus Christ, you can’t stop throwing now.’…so we call for the beer and my shoulder is about to fall off!”

Another story that came out of that appearance was the fact that Vince McMahon apparently lied to Shawn Michaels and told him he needed to be back in wrestling shape for the appearance, leading to HBK working his butt off to get into the fantastic condition we saw him in at Mania (allegedly, Michaels figured out it was a rib the second he saw Austin’s physique at the show).
