It was reported last week that former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree had filed a class action lawsuit against WWE, demanding royalties for use of footage that included him on the WWE Network. Dupree claimed that there was a clause in his talent contract as it existed at the time that forced WWE to pay him, citing that the WWE Network was consistent with the term “technology not invented at the time” (current WWE contracts specifically exclude the Network programming from requiring royalty payments). WWE responded by claiming that Dupree had signed a waiver that negated the validity of the lawsuit, which appeared to surprise Dupree’s lawyers. It would appear that WWE may have had the upper hand all along, as Dupree has reportedly voluntarily dismissed his lawsuit, and will no longer seek royalties from his former employer. So, that was exciting for a few days, anyway!
