WATCH: Ronda Rousey’s “Official” WWE Contract Signing Got Violent

Ronda Rousey finally returned to WWE programming Sunday night at their Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, after surprising everyone by showing up unannounced at the Royal Rumble a month ago. It was advertised as Rousey appearing to officially sign her contract to be a Raw superstar. But since this is “sports entertainment,” contract signings almost never go smoothly.

In that case, Rousey was greeted by the Kurt Angle, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H (the general manager and commissioner of Raw, and the COO of WWE, respectively). After Triple H and Stephanie spent a few minutes buttering up Rousey and all of her legitimate athletic accomplishments, Angle let it slip that the WW power couple were still seeking revenge for Rousey embarrassing the duo at WrestleMania 31.

With the help of The Rock, Rousey laid the smack down on Trips and Steph a few years ago. At Elimination Chamber, Angle suggested that the contract would allow Rousey to be manipulated by the WWE bosses, and he accused them of calling the former UFC champ “washed-up.” As Triple H attempted to smooth things over, Rousey decided she had heard enough.

A little side suplex through the table was enough to get Rousey over with the crowd (she was a bit timid on the mic, but hey, it was basically her first day). In the aftermath, Rousey signed the contract and threw it on H’s fallen body. Stephanie then got all up in Rousey’s face and delivered a solid slap. Rousey didn’t hit back, but the announcers kept teasing what might happen if Rousey shows up on Raw tonight (which might not even happen — no one really knows).

Triple H did promise that Rousey’s contract comes with a WrestleMania match, but not necessarily a championship opportunity. The smart money is one some sort of tag match where a more experienced wrestler can help take the attention from Rousey, since she’s still very green. The Rock/Rousey vs. Triple H/Steph is probably the first choice, if the WWE can pry Dwayne away from his busy acting schedule.
