Report: Darren Young Will Get a WWE Hall of Famer as His Manager

According to various reports from this week’s Smackdown tapings (this is your SPOILER ALERT), Darren Young is being repackaged and will be partnered with a WWE Hall of Famer going forward. Former WWE champion Bob Backlund will be returning to TV to act as Young’s “life coach.” A segment that will air on Smackdown will show Young asking Backlund for advice, who will respond by telling the youngster that he needs to realize that “wrestling is life.”

The duo will also borrow a phrase from United States presidential hopeful (and also a WWE Hall of Famer) Donald Trump, by declaring it their mission to “Make Darren Great Again.” Trump has famously campaigned using the slogan “Make America Great Again.”

There are rumors that Young actually pitched this idea himself, with the gimmick being that he is depressed upon returning to the ring from injury. Backlund will then motivate him to be “great again.”

Of course, we’re not sure that anything that happens on Smackdown actually happens at all. We’ll have to wait and see if this idea goes anywhere.
