NXT Women’s champion Asuka suffered an unfortunate injury at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III over the SummerSlam weekend, breaking her collarbone during a match with Ember Moon (which she won anyway). She’s expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks while it heels, but the most recent NXT television tapings revealed a big change in plans for the Japanese star.

On Thursday night, NXT commissioner William Regal announced the the live crowd that he had “begun negotiations” to send Asuka to the the main roster (he teased both the Raw and SmackDown brands). Then the entire locker room emptied to watch Asuka relinquish the NXT Women’s Title, making it almost certain that she won’t wrestle under the NXT brand again.

Asuka has been champion since April 1, 2016 after defeating Bayley. She has remained undefeated ever since, racking up a 500+ day championship reign and even surpassed Goldberg’s legendary undefeated streak of 173-0 when she picked up win No. 174 in May 2017.
Keep an eye out for Asuka’s inevitable main roster debut in a couple months, once her injury is all healed up.
