Former bitter enemies and now apparent best friends Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are in hot water after a recent incident saw them unceremoniously sent home while the WWE is in the middle of a European tour.
Reports are sketchy (at best) and there seem to be a few conflicting reports about exactly what happened. The general consensus, though, seems to be that Owens and Zayn were shipped back to the States following Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings in Manchester, England.
The duo apparently went off-script after a match against The New Day, generating a ton of backstage heat. They were supposed to stick around after Kofi Kingston beat Zayn to take a beat down, putting The New Day over as faces in front of the British audience.
Instead, Owens fed Kingston a couple of punches and quickly retreated with Zayn. Many wrestlers backstage were mad about the change of plans, accusing Owens and Zayn of “going into business for themselves” by choosing not to look weak in front of the audience (and the cameras).
Here’s a clip from the end of the match:
Owens also recently left the WWE’s South American tour, but that was to attend an urgent family matter. That is to say, he wasn’t sent home last month — he asked permission to leave.
Owens and Zayn aren’t currently scheduled to appear at Survivor Series on November 19, and it’s possible they will be kept off the show as further punishment. Of course, that’s still a ten days away and a lot can change in the WWE universe in just ten days.
