Despite all the rumors to the contrary, Kenny Omega didn’t up leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling and making the jump to the WWE when his contract expired in early 2017. Instead he remained with NJPW, as leader of the Bullet Club, and put on an all-time great match with Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11.
Omega, widely considered one of the best wrestlers on the planet, has never really expressed a huge interest in coming to the WWE. In fact, as NJPW recently announced plans to run shows in California and other parts of North America, Omega would be a key figure for them — he’s a Canadian guy who speaks perfect English, after all, and is a big part of their hottest angle.
Despite the fact Omega is obviously comfortable not working for the largest wrestling company on Earth, there is one WWE superstar that Omega is dying to work with. On a recent episode of Live Audio Wrestling, Omega said that he “needs” to get in the ring with A.J. Styles somehow.
“Right now, I’m 100% content with where I am because I would love to be the driving force behind New Japan in the global market. However, generally, I’m just guided by how I feel, where my heart’s at and where I’m needed, if that makes sense. I’m not gonna lie, there are things that I haven’t been able to do that I would love to do at some point in time. One of those things is, I really feel I need to have a high stakes main event with AJ [Styles]. I really feel I have to. I’m not sure where it will be, I’m just saying that it’s always in the back of my mind.”
All we can say as wrestling fans is this: make it happen. NJPW, WWE, Vince McMahon, Styles — whoever it takes. Whatever it takes. That would be a main event for the ages.
