It appears that Jimmy Snuka will not be forced to defend himself against charges that he was implicit in the death of his girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, in 1983. After hearing the testimony of medical experts from both sides at a competency hearing held today, the judge ruled that Sunka is not mentally competent to stand trial, also denying the District Attorney’s request for a 60-day involuntary treatment order.
According to local reporter Sarah Cassi, who has been covering the trial and broke the news on social media, the judge reportedly stated “I don’t believe [Snuka] could ever competently and convincingly testify on his own behalf”, and “I don’t believe he’s faking it. No offense, I don’t believe he’s smart enough to do it.”
Snuka’s competency will be re-tested in six months, but the defense has stated that his condition, which has been exacerbated by a recent battle with stomach cancer, is only expected to deteriorate further. At this point, it appears as if this long and sordid saga will not have a satisfying conclusion for anyone involved.
