John Cena vs The Undertaker May No Longer Be In The Cards For WrestleMania

Many had believed that this was finally going to be the year that WWE followed through on The Undertaker facing John Cena at WrestleMania, as one of the last huge “Dream Matches” left available to them. The last time Cena and The Undertaker faced off one-on-one was in 2003, before Cena became a huge star and the centerpiece of the entire company. With the increasing possibility that every Mania match could be The Undertaker’s last one, as well as Cena moving into a part-time role, it has been widely felt that WWE has to finally cash in on this match.

However, it seems as if WWE may feel that they have a better plan yet again this year, and tentative plans to have Cena face Taker at WrestleMania 33 have reportedly been dropped. In terms of other options, some feel that a subtle Twitter war between Cena and Roman Reigns may have been testing the waters for a big Mania match, and as for Taker, it can’t have been an accident that the camera cut to Braun Strowman watching him from backstage during his promo on Raw.

Frankly, we’re concerned that if Cena-Taker doesn’t happen this year, it may never get another chance, but we can also understand WWE’s preference to split up two of their biggest stars and put them in separate matches that would still be considered “big”, rather than confine them to a single match against each other, especially with WrestleMania 33 scheduled to run roughly seventeen hours this year*.
