John Cena Taking More Time Off In The Near Future

Between spending most of the past year off TV between injuries and filming his new reality show American Grit on FOX, and not being scheduled for any US non-televised live events for the rest of the year, it continues to look more and more like John Cena is transitioning into a part-time performer for WWE. And it’s only going to become more apparent, as this week, word came down that American Grit has been (somewhat surprisingly) renewed for a second season. Although no premiere date has been announced, what this does mean is that it’s all but certain that John Cena will be taking another break from WWE, very likely before the end of 2016.

We certainly don’t begrudge Cena his success outside the ring, or his transition into a smaller role on WWE programming. However, after over a decade of having Cena as the undisputed face of WWE, this definitely signifies and interesting period going forward for WWE and wrestling fans everywhere, as they search for a new star (or maybe more than one) to build the company around going forward.
