CM Punk made a rather lackluster debut in MMA when he got pummeled by Mickey Gall in his UFC debut, putting serious doubts about the former WWE champion’s ability to remain on the UFC roster. It’s been almost exactly one year, and we haven’t heard even a distant whisper that Punk will get another shot in the cage.
Until now, that is.
Punk’s MMA coach is the famous Duke Roufus. In a recent Instagram post, Roufus attached the following caption to a photo of Punk and fellow UFC fighter John Makdessi:
“Great #laborday training today with the #roufusport Fight Team. We are pleased to welcome #UFC Lightweight #lebanese #canadian #johnmakdessi and always a pleasure having #cmpunk both of them are awaiting fight confirmations.”

Amidst all those hashtags is the phrase “both of them are awaiting fight confirmations.” That definitely makes it sound like Punk is close to officially getting another crack at MMA glory. We have no idea who Punk’s potential opponent would be, but considering his name value alone sold a bunch of extra PPVs in 2016 (plus he made $500,000 to get beat up for a few minutes), it’s really no surprise that the UFC would give him one more chance.
