Is WWE Bringing Back Single-Brand PPVs?

It seems like WWE may be bringing back another facet of the brand extension that didn’t always work particularly well the first time, as current Smackdown color commentator Jerry “The King” Lawler was allegedly telling fans at an event that there are plans in place to bring back Raw and Smackdown-exclusive Pay Per Views, to the tune of two PPVs per month outside of the “Big Four” shows (WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble), which would use wrestlers from both shows.

It’s believed that WWE’s line of thinking in expanding their PPV calendar beyond one per month is that now that all Pay Per View’s are shown on the WWE Network, which has a monthly fee of ten dollars, fans would be more likely to watch single brand PPVs, as opposed to the original brand extension, when viewers were expected to pay the full PPV price for each show. However, an additional problem of single brand PPVs was a lack of depth for both rosters leading to shows that nobody particularly wanted to see, so there are arguments on both sides.

Take this as just a rumor for now, but don’t be surprised if it becomes reality after the brand split happens in July!
