WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose was the guest star on a special live edition of the Steve Austin Show podcast immediately after Raw, and it was an interesting insight into the man behind the character, one who is clearly driven to try and put on a great show, whatever the cost. At one point, the talk turned to WrestleMania, where Dean took part in a fairly disappointing match with Brock Lesnar, and it sounds like Ambrose places a lot of the blame for that on Lesnar.
“I went to the ring that night pretty pissed off…I had no idea what was going to happen…I felt like I was pulling teeth to turn that match into something epic.”
“Artistically, Brock didn’t want to do anything…you know, Brock’s gonna Brock…I had a vision for that match to be the craziest thing imaginable, you know what I mean, and I was trying to pitch everything to everybody and had every idea and I put so much effort and so much work in and other people did too, you know, and I was met with laziness.”
If true (and let’s face it, given what we know about Brock, it almost certainly is), it’s hard not to sympathize with Ambrose, who did put a lot of work into that feud while Lesnar barely appeared on TV during the build-up to WrestleMania. More importantly, the fact that WWE would let their WWE World Heavyweight Champion speak openly about Brock’s selfishness and laziness on a heavily promoted show that took place immediately after Raw speaks volumes about how feelings might be running towards Brock backstage right about now.
