After he was pretty much demolished in his first career fight at UFC 203, everyone pretty much figured that CM Punk’s career in MMA was pretty much over, at least in UFC. President Dana White actually said publicly that he didn’t see Punk’s second fight, should it ever occur, to take place under the UFC banner, and nobody could blame him for that. However, whether or not Punk is a competent MMA fighter (and sad to say, he really isn’t), the important thing is that his fight brought in a whole lot of money for UFC, and it appears that it might be doing the talking now. This week, Punk did an interview with MMA insider Ariel Helwani, where he basically stated that there are plans for his next fight to take place in UFC after all.
“I don’t want to speak for [Dana], but I think if he wants to kill it, he would have killed it right then…Until anything is official, I don’t want to say either way what he’s thinking or what he’s thinking. But yeah, I’m pretty confident that it’ll be in the UFC.”
“I told him I want to fight again. We’re back at it. We’re back to the drawing board. So, it’s up to him. He floated me an idea and we’re kind of going back and forth on it right now.”
We’re not sure who Punk would even face, given his lack of success against a relatively inexperienced Mickey Gall, but it sounds like we could find out sooner than we expected when he’ll try to make a second attempt at getting inside the octagon!
