Former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio (who now works under a new name as Alberto “El Presidente” Rodriguez), who has been increasingly in the public eye in recent weeks due to his public relationship with fellow Superstar Paige, alleged attempted sabotage of their relationship by WWE, and dual Wellness suspensions in August which led to his hastened departure from the company. With Paige now serving a second Wellness suspension, announced by WWE yesterday, before even stepping back in the ring after her first one, and Paige taking to social media to suggest that she is being railroaded by the company, Del Rio was reached for comment about his significant other’s issues by ESPN, and had this to say:
“It’s just like she said in her statement this afternoon,” Rodriguez said. “It’s just the same s—, different day, my friend.”
When asked about his relationship with Paige and the rumors that someone in power in WWE repeatedly attempted to break them up, Del Rio responded:
“To be honest, I don’t care what they say or what they try to do. We are together and we are happy. I know a lot of people are not happy but regardless of whatever people say, we can be happy. We can be together. And we are going to stay together because we are happy.
“If someone is not comfortable or happy about it, we just don’t care. We are going to continue our life. Our families are happy and we’re happy. That’s all that matters.”
Given the increased amount of public pressure and the willingness of not only Paige, but her parents and partner, to talk openly about the situation, we’d imagine that the former Divas Champion will be by Del Rio’s side on the independent circuit in the very near future.
