6 Reasons Why Dean Ambrose Should Be The Face of The WWE

When people envisioned the end of The Shield, they always thought Seth Rollins was the guy who’d end up getting lost in the shuffle. Roman Reigns was already earmarked to be the next face of the company, and even if he wasn’t, he was too dominant not to at least be a major player in a singles run. As for Dean Ambrose, with many regarding him as the face of The Shield, they expected big things from the Lunatic Fringe.

However, fast forward nearly two years and all Ambrose has done—title wise—is have one Intercontinental title reign that lasted two months. His other Shield brethren have already both won the World Heavyweight title, and while Ambrose is still very much a main event player, it often seemed like he wouldn’t be winning the big one any time soon, right up until he cashed in Money in the Bank in 2016, winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title to a tremendous ovation. Here are six reasons why Ambrose should be THE guy.

6. He’s Got the Theme Song Down

This might be a silly reason, but a theme song for the main guy in your company is important. While some people may not like this theme, overall, it seems like majority of people dig Dean Ambrose’s “Retaliation” soundtrack. It’s almost similar to Stone Cold Steve Austin’s theme such that when it hits, you know business is about to pick up. It even has that opening sound of the guitar riff that gets fans pumped and ready to pop, just like so many other great wrestlers have had over the years such as Austin’s “Broken Glass” and Ric Flair’s “Wooo.”

5. He Has Paid His Dues

In an interview from early 2016, Dean Ambrose talked about how he is valued by the company for being a high-end utility player.

“I like to think I’m a good mechanic for the company. ‘Oh well, we sprung a leak? Call Ambrose, throw him in there.’ I like that because I think it has really upped my value with the company and I think that they realize nowadays too, another Dean Ambrose isn’t going to walk through the door anytime soon or ever. So. I kind of exist in my own little space, I kind of got my own little corner of the room carved out for myself, which I like.”

It’s very true considering at one point in 2016, Ambrose was feuding with Kevin Owens, Triple H and Brock Lesnar at the same time—two of which he continued feuding with right up to WrestleMania. It’s a good thing to be a jack of all trades, but at this point, Ambrose will be a master of none if he remains a utility player. He has been in all sorts of feuds and has put over many wrestlers in the process. It’s time for him to be the one winning.

4. He’s Simply Unique

The one superstar from back in the day that almost everyone will compare Ambrose to is Stone Cold Steve Austin. They both are scruffy, don’t care for authority, and pretty much do anything they please. But despite the duo’s mutual love for driving vehicles onto RAW, Ambrose is still pretty unique such that he doesn’t seem like a cheap, PG rip-off of the Texas Rattlesnake.

He is definitely more comedic than Austin—an example being getting beaten up by Triple H after being awarded a title shot and then while lying in the ring, thanking him. It’s almost like Ambrose is the wrestling equivalent of Deadpool. He also certainly lives up to his lunatic gimmick by never staying down, perfectly encapsulated by his feud with Lesnar who just can’t seem to get rid of him. All these attributes make him a special talent.

3. He’s Entertaining

When Ambrose makes his way to the ring, you know something good is going to happen. Whether it’s a promo mocking someone like the Authority or even Michael Cole, or a match, Ambrose almost always delivers. His interviews are always good and even his facial reactions stay true to his character.

While he might have lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, given that it was a street fight, we can still appreciate some huge spots that came from the Lunatic Fringe. And even without toppling the Beast, Ambrose still left the arena with huge applause.

2. He’s Over With Just About Everyone

Not since the active days of Daniel Bryan have WWE stumbled upon a superstar who is simply over with all parts of their fanbase. Whether it’s marks, smarks, kids, teenage girls, or the parents, Ambrose is pretty much loved by everyone.

Always getting a positive reaction, through the WWE’s terrible booking of him, they’ve actually created the next underdog that everyone wants to root for. It would be a shame if they didn’t capitalize on it—maybe it’s time for a Lunatic Movement to rival the Yes Movement?

1. He Simply Has “It”

Culminating all the aforementioned points, Ambrose simply has the “it” factor. WWE, especially in their weekly play-by-play commentary, keep teasing about how terrible life would be like in the company with Ambrose as the face of it. But it would definitely be better than, say, Roman Reigns or John Cena at this point. Ambrose emits a certain unpredictability and the way he’s going, he really could be the next Austin if he’s given the ball to run with.

If you need more proof, simply just look at the pop he got at Money in the Bank when he beat Rollins for the title. It’s something Reigns never really got, and probably won’t, at least in the near future.
