Donald Trump has been compared to many pop culture figures during his presidential candidacy, with Biff Tannen from Back To The Future, Mr. Burns from The Simpsons, and even Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter all offering shockingly accurate parallels to the divisive nominee. However, YouTuber Matt Orfalea claims to have found “the most accurate” Trump parallel in all of pop culture: B.P. Richfield, the exceptionally angry boss from the 1990s TV show Dinosaurs.
Osfalea makes one heck of a convincing case over the course of an 8-minute long video that intercuts some of Trump’s speeches with Richfield dialogue. It’s actually kind of terrifying how closely Richfield and Trump mirror one another, with everything from their mannerisms, speech inflections, and even their political plans being strikingly similar. Both blowhards seem to have a lot of problem with women and they both want to build walls to keep out people they don’t like.
Most of the footage from the episode comes from a second season episode called “And The Winner Is…” in which Richfield runs for political office (in this case, chief elder of Pangaea). The election ends with Richfield losing and an unlikely third party candidate winning, so we should probably start preparing for a Gary Johnson or Jill Stein presidency. Unfortunately, as John Oliver helpfully pointed out the other week on Last Week Tonight, there’s not much reason to be hopeful about either proposition.
