Dave Chappelle Said a Sincere Goodbye to Charlie Murphy at a John Mayer Concert

Via Comedy Central

When news broke that comedian Charlie Murphy had passed away on Wednesday, there was an outpouring of sympathy from both his fans and the show business community as a whole. One person who didn’t publicly comment was Dave Chappelle, which seemed a bit strange, since it was on Chappelle’s Show that Murphy had his true breakout moments. Then again, Chappelle isn’t really into the whole social media this (his verified Twitter account hasn’t posted since 2012), so we just had to be patient.

During a John Mayer concert on Wednesday night, Chappelle was given a chance to get on the mic and say a few words to the crowd.

“Today, I got some terrible news,” Chappelle said. “My good friend, Charlie Murphy, passed away this morning, and everybody in comedy is heartbroken.

Chapelle then joined Mayer in a performance of “You’re Gonna Live Forever On Me,” a song he claimed reminds him of his friend Charlie Murphy.

“Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy,” Chappelle concluded. “We love you, we love your comedy, we love your stories, and we love your spirit.”
