Over the weekend the Red Hot Chili Peppers took part in the annual Silverlake Conservatory of Music Gala and during the performance, the band debuted their cover of Jimi Hendrix’s classic Purple Haze.
Saturday’s Gala was emceed by comedian and podcast legend Marc Maron and hosted by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The purpose of the event and organization as a whole is to “facilitate a dynamic music education and to teach beginning and accomplished musicians of all skill levels.”
Other than the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Maron, stars like Brad Pitt, Rashida Jones, the Beatie Boys’ Mike D, Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, k.d. lang, and more, all showed up to show their support and help raise money for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.
Before closing out the night with Purple Haze, the Red Hot Chili Peppers played Under the Bridge, By the Way, a cover of the Allman Brothers Ban’s hit Ramblin Man.
